I came to London from Ghana three years ago, to study. Back home, there are really good places to study but it depends on which subject you want to become an expert on! I really wanted to go to England because I wanted to broaden my education and experiences – maybe even start a whole new life! My family have a bit of money and I was always talented with writing so I came to the UK to study at Portsmouth University. What a world away from home! My family and I stayed in touch via Skype and Messenger, and we would send money back and forth using money transfers. There are loads of companies who offer money transfer services such as Western Union, although many of them can get infiltrated by money launderers (criminals). I used paypal because of their specialised system which I find much safer.
There are plenty of ways to Transfer Money – it depends on your capabilities! You can visit an agent like Western Union and fill out a transfer form. Pretty easy but there are more modern ways to send money to family or friends abroad. You can use Paypal or other internet services which allow you to send money through the click of a button! Make sure the exchange rate is decent because they might vary. Then there are prepaid cards which allow you to get a second card for family overseas – when you load money on the card, they can access it too! If you want to send larger amounts it’s best to use a foreign exchange specialist.
